Riverview At A Glance

Led by Pastor Ed Hernandez, Riverview Calvary Chapel began in 2015 when a small group of believers gathered to study God’s Word and see what He would do. What started as a simple Bible study has grown into a vibrant church family in New Braunfels, dedicated to teaching the Bible verse by verse and growing in the love of Jesus Christ.
We’re part of the Calvary Chapel movement, founded by Pastor Chuck Smith, and we’re thankful to see God’s continued faithfulness as He builds His church for His glory.

God's Faithfulness

The History of Riverview Calvary Chapel

Riverview Calvary Chapel began with a simple conviction: teach the Bible faithfully and point people to Jesus.
Pastor Ed Hernandez has served in ministry for more than twenty-one years. During those years he ministered on the west side of San Antonio and planted churches in Reynosa, McAllen, and Irving. Each step shaped his passion for clear Bible teaching, healthy discipleship, and servant-minded ministry.
In early 2015, Pastor Ed and his family sensed the Lord calling them to New Braunfels. They moved with no building, no launch team, and no grand strategy – just a desire to see God plant a church that stayed rooted in Scripture and relied on the leading of the Holy Spirit.
By July, God had gathered a small group of believers who all shared that hunger for the Word. They met in homes, prayed together, and opened their Bibles expecting the Lord to speak. Out of those early gatherings, Riverview Calvary Chapel was formed. The church quickly became known for verse-by-verse teaching, authentic fellowship, and a quiet steadiness that comes from trusting God to build His own church.
As the fellowship grew, so did the opportunities to serve the community. What started as a handful of families has become a church committed to worship, discipleship, missions, and living out the gospel in everyday life. And the heart remains the same: keep Jesus at the center, stay grounded in Scripture, and walk forward in faith.

Mission

We exist to help people repair and restore fellowship with God so they can become passionate disciples of Jesus.
The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail. Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and raise up the age-old foundations; you will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of Streets with Dwellings. - Isaiah 58:11-12 (NIV)

Vision

Riverview Calvary Chapel lives out a simple, biblical pattern:
Win a Person to ChristMark 16:15 — “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Disciple a Person in Jesus ChristMatthew 28:19-20 — “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you.”
Send a Person for Jesus ChristActs 1:8 — “You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Our vision is straightforward: Reach people, grow disciples, and send believers out with the gospel in the power of the Spirit.
A river with trees lining the banks

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Matthew 11:28
